When Chicago burned down in 1871, it was largely a city of wood. Chicago was rebuilt as a city of brick and came to be one of the great brick centers of the world, producing 1.5 billion bricks a year. On this tour, we'll see how homes, churches, and school buildings of Hyde Park offer an amazing and surprising look at the way brick architecture shaped Chicago and the world. You'll learn about all the different ways architects have used brick to create beautiful buildings and how to read the secret language written in the brick. After this tour, you'll never look at Chicago or the humble brick the same!
