With its combination of a picture-perfect skyline, bustling downtown, and charming neighborhoods, Chicago has long been a favorite setting for movies, ranging from classic comedies to gritty urban dramas to superhero flicks. eATLAS’ exciting new scavenger hunt will take you through the Loop and River North to the locations of city landmarks that have been immortalized on the silver screen.
Chicago’s recent history as a home for cinema began in 1979, when Mayor Jane Byrne actively courted Hollywood studios to film in the city. By the end of the ‘80s, Chicago and its suburbs had served as the backdrop for many movies about the lives of teenagers, including “Risky Business” and John Hughes’ trio of films.
Each adventure in our scavenger hunt will require you and your team to draw upon your knowledge of movies and Chicago’s history and architecture. In order to advance, you’ll have to complete a task, either answering a question, uploading a picture, or guessing the location. Participants get points for every correct clue but are docked for wrong answers. If you get stuck, we’ve provided photographs and clips from the movie as hints.
